I'm almost sure that I have already tried this. I will double check.
Actually in the Revit 2017 SDK I was able to open the document this way. Problem occurs when I downgraded to the 2014. No I haven't tried. Will check it.
I will also check it without VS. Where did you read that this is prohibited in the 2017? I have checked "What's new in 2017" and can't find this info.
