Dear Benoit,
Please accept my many thanks and sincere gratitude for your long and elaborate reply. However, maybe I wasn’t clear in my post, so let me explain again, this time in simple words.
My intention is not to use Shared Parameters on models coming from different architects. It is to *give* files like Custom Families (with custom parameters) and Shared Parameters to different architects, that they can then use in their modelling. These Custom Families and Shared Parameters will contain links to our databases (our material database; like sanitary ware, lighting fixtures, Switches, cables etc., complete with prices etc.) which will then help contractors and builders to use our software to get estimates.
As for your first point (modelling not being accurate by architect, thus estimate varying greatly), I already know that this is extremely complicated. My hope is to start with the easy database (materials that you buy straight from the market) and linking it to Revit. Then, we tackle the complicated problem of taking quantities out of things like flooring, walls etc., and linking it to items of work (construction process on which the contracting is done).
In case this is still not clear, and you’re still interested in my post, I suggest looking at my original post (linked below) to get a better idea.
Finally, I’d like to end again by thanking you for your time and effort in replying to this post.
Kind regards,
Vikram
